When the snow is melted at low and medium altitude, the majestic volcano offers great experiences for excursions accessible to everyone and with different degrees of difficulty. Here 3 special routes, all starting from Piano Provenzana – North side – to be done in the company of an authorized guide.

ITINERARY 1 DISCOVERING THE CANYONS – DURATION 2′ 30″

A ring itinerary, lasting about 2 hours, to see the evidence of the eruptive power of 2002.

Dozens of craters and the lava flow channel that goes up to the village. Nature and breathtaking landscapes on an itinerary suitable for everyone.

ITINERARY 2 CENTRAL CRATER TARGET – DURATION 7′

From the Piano Provenzana with authorized off-road vehicles, reach a height of 2800 mt and from there, following a trekking route, the top at 3350 mt.

A difficult path, in which a certain training is required and in which – given 30% less oxygen due to the altitude – it is preferable not to bring children.

The descent, then, is magnificent: eyes on the Valle del Bove and on the observatory, descending through dunes of fine sand.

ITINERARY 3 THE ROPE WASHES – DURATION 7′

At an altitude of 1800 mt, following the trail of Monte Nero, you reach the beech forest of the Timpa Rossa.

Short stop at a shelter, then continue through the remains of the oldest castings, 1600, spectacular and called “rope”.

Here the vast lava field has created surprising channels of sliding: one of these is the Grotta dei Lamponi. One of the longest to visit: over 700 meters underground.

Camera in hand, therefore, and ready to enter the bowels of the volcano.
